What to Wear to Your Engagement Photos

Hey there! If you are reading this it is probably because you are STRUGGLING to find the right ensemble for your engagement photo shoot. Trust me, I know this is a serious challenge. I was dealing with this just about a year ago and let me tell you, that was probably one of the most stressful part of wedding planning. Seriously, I am not joking it was! Then, I recently did an engagement shoot and the bride experienced the exact same thing. That made me realize that this was not some anomaly that just happened to me. So in an effort to help you, today I am going to share some quick tips on what to wear to your engagement photos from a photographers perspective.

Tips for Your Engagement Ensemble:

  1. Pick something you will be comfortable in! I know this seems pretty basic, but let me tell you why this is KEY. Regardless of where you decide to shoot your engagement photos, you are going to be walking and moving A LOT. You will sweat, even if it is not hot outside. Plus, you are going to be posing and holding poses, and it is surprisingly challenging. One of my brides was sore after her shoot and I had her sitting in a lot of their photos! So make sure you are both comfortable so you can easily get in to and hold those poses.

  2. As a bride, you do NOT have to wear white. For me, I became caught up in this idea that you have to wear white as a bride. Totally untrue. If you want to wear white, you absolutely can. But maybe your favorite color is red or blush or yellow. This ties back to my first tip, wear what makes you feel beautiful in, forget about the rules. DO YOU!

  3. Your outfits should compliment each other, just like your relationship. If you are reading this, I am sure you know that the days of matchy-matchy outfits for photo shoots is, well, dead. Your engagement shoot outfits should compliment each other. I recommend perusing Pinterest for color palettes that you both like. Then work within that color palette! This way you have seen all of those colors together and know they will compliment each other well during your engagement photo shoot.

  4. Trust your photographer. If you aren’t sure where to start and you are hitting a dead end, reach out to your photographer. As a photographer, I want to help make your photography dreams come true! For me, I would love to help you in any way I can, that includes doing some online shopping if needed. Not to mention, it will help your photographer get to know you better and be even more prepared for your shoot! So don’t hesitate to reach out and ask for guidance, that’s what your photographer is there for.

Those are my top tips to picking out what to wear to your engagement photo shoot. And remember that at the end of the day, your photographer is there to capture your love story so you could wear anything and it will be beautiful. Here are a few examples from some of my favorite couples!
